Mission

The California Office of Information Security has responsibility and authority over statewide information security and privacy policies and standards applicable to all state government agencies, as outlined in Government Code Section 11549, Chapter 183, of the Statutes of 2007 (Senate Bill 90). Effective January 1, 2008, we became part of the new Office of Information Security and Privacy Protection (OISPP) within the State and Consumer Services Agency.

Our Mission 

To ensure the trust of Californians by providing statewide strategic direction and leadership in the protection of the State's information assets.

Our Key Goals

  • Establish direction through policy and procedures for information risk management, including both information security and operational recovery.
  • Promote and improve prevention and risk reduction through education, awareness, collaboration, and consultation. 
  • Ensure that incident handling, response, and follow-up occur in an effective and coordinated manner. 
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a risk management monitoring and compliance process.
